Video and Film

The history of video began in the late 19th century with short (1 or 2 minutes) videos shown in public places. These were one shot shoots with no editing or cinematic technique and no sound. In time, live musicians and narrators were used to enhance videos shown in larger venues.

In the 1920's the technical ability to add sound within the film ended the silent era of film. Films began to include film editing, cinematic effects and narrative/sound added to the film. The film business, by this time, had grown into a major industry.

In the 1950's, television was developed and brought films and video into the home. The 1980's saw the rise of the VCR, and personal video recorder, putting video into the hands of individuals.

Digital technology introduced DVDs, digital video recorders and home video editing software so that now individuals could become video artists on their home computer. There are many video creation software programs available includint iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, and Sony Movie Studio Platinum.
