Drawing Media

Artists use a wide range of drawing media, tools and techniques. Some have been used by artists for centuries while others have been more recently discovered or invented. Drawings are distinguished by the specific marks different media create. An artist can produce works of a particular look by choosing media to match his/her drawing style or needs. The choices are endless so this site will only attempt to describe a handful of the media available, some of the most common.

The medium that a small child uses is usually different than that of the professional artist; even the media that are common to both will differ in grade or quality. Most art supply stores carry a range of each media for the professional and amateur artists.
