Colored Pencils

Colored pencils are made of a wax based binder and pigment wrapped in a wooden casing. They vary widely in quality and proportions of pigment, accounting for the many different grades available to artists and students. Colored pencils, as we know them, were first used sometime in the early 20th century.

Colored pencils are a dry medium but are layered much like paints. A good quality colored pencil can be built up into rich, realistic colors. Following are a few videos with tips for using colored pencils:
